The European Commission are investigating and deciding whether they are going to go ahead and operate Lynemouth with just biomass. The UK are deciding on whether to support this investigation or not. The project would require approx. 1.5 million tonnes of wood pellets per year! The main source for this would come from the US and Canada. The need for such a large amount of wood pellets could also lead to a lot of competition in the biomass market. It has been said that 420 MW of the renewable energy will run just on biomass substance.
| The project will be receiving support from a “Contract for Difference” and this will allow certain sales prices to be fixed. The British Government would help support this. The UK has estimated that the project will run until 2027. The biomass material that will be used to run this project is a big decision to take into consideration for the parties that are involved. In total 8 renewable energy projects have asked the British government for support, Lynemouth Coal Power Plant Plans being one of them. |
This project is being widely discussed in the energy industry, and Britain will soon have to make the decision whether they would want to partake and support this project. The project is now going to be discussed further to see if it will be successful and if its concerns are justified, also if this will benefit the environment.
